First Middle East Invitational Cup
Posted on 16. Sep, 2011 by KMAJune 24 marked the launch of the first Middle East Invitational Cup.
Hosted by the Abu Dhabi Combat Club and the UAE Brazilian Jujitsu Federation, the event brought together around 150 competitors. Competitors from all over the Middle East were invited to the event. Morocco had some strong Judokas participating in most divisions. Non-Arab fighters who are residents of a Gulf country were also invited to participate.
The competition was initially slated to be a two-day event with June 24th (Friday) being the NOGI day and June 25th was the GI day. However due to challenges with the TV airtime, both events were held on the Friday the 24th. It proved to be very challenging for those fighters who were planning to compete on both events.
NOGI was 830am till 1 pm while GI was from 4pm till 7pm.
Good thing there were 5 mats and the officials were strict with the rest periods hence the tourney finished on time.
Coach Noel participated in both Masters Heavyweights NOGI and GI events.
It was a long and tiring day but Coach Noel was able to capture Silver in the NOGI and Bronze in the GI event.
