About Boxing

Most people, even fighters, don’t think of boxing as a martial art..

From the beginning, a novice boxer is taught to fight. He will learn to throw jabs and straight punches.
Now many martial artists learn boxing for MMA training or to improve hand speed fitness, and punch combinations.

What you will learn
The fundamentals will be stressed and practiced repeatedly until they become second nature. It is during this early learning period that students are instructed in a proper stance, covering up, footwork and throwing punches without telegraphing them.
New students will quickly move to hitting the punch mitts, heavy bag and double end bag while practicing their punches. This training reinforces the need for balance, coordination, control and accuracy.

Lesson plan
Students will learn effective combination punching skills and at the same time they are also develop defensive skills such as slipping, ducking, bobbing and weaving and parrying.
It is quite common for a boxing coach to throw “counter punches” while holding the mitts for a fighter. This reminds a student to pay attention to defense, even in the midst of launching an attack or following through with a counter.

Students are taught the importance of returning their hands to the guard position after throwing a punch. Footwork and timing. while moving is an important aspect as well as defense in a natural free flowing manner.

In boxing, there is a heavy focus on physical conditioning which is not as emphasized in more traditional martial arts. Boxers will perform exercises to develop strength, speed and stamina.

The importance of being able to “go the distance” is stressed early on in training this builds conditioning both physically and mentally.
It is a great sport for losing weight and getting fit.

Boxers are also well equipped to handle themselves in most self-defense situations. It is very difficult to contend with an opponent that is constantly moving and can throw multiple blows in rapid succession.
