Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Posted on 12. Apr, 2011 by KMA
BJJ is a ground based grappling system essential for mixed Martial Arts and practiced on a resisting opponent at various levels of intensity to improve the effectiveness, application and reality of the techniques. The concept is that a smaller weaker opponent using leverage can beat a larger person.
It is one of the most enjoyable of all martial arts as it is both a mental and physical challenge likened to physical Chess.
To practitioners it is not solely a martial art, it is also a sport; a method for promoting physical fitness , building character in young people; and ultimately, a way of life.
Participants can start from age 5 it is a low impact sport with no striking.
We emphasis training in both Gi and No Gi.
Gi is a Kimono or uniform , No Gi is shorts and t-shirt or rash guard

BJJ is a ground based grappling system essential for mixed Martial Arts and practiced on resisting opponent at various levels of intensity to improve the effectiveness, application and reality of the techniques.
It is one of the most enjoyable martial arts as it is both a mental and physical challenge.
A regular Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Judo class involves warm up, stretching followed by drills and or technique study, then sparring and warm down approximately 1.5 - 2 hours per session.
Sparring is optional, although we encourage all members to train with the higher belts and with partners of the same level, to improve their skill, and application of the techniques.
Regular training can be with a Gi (Kimono) or with No Gi (Shorts, rash vest, sandol, T-shirt). Training is at your own pace; persons of all ages can attend. For your own improvement and cardiovascular fitness you are encouraged to take part in all the exercises.
If you are looking for self-defense, fitness, flexibility, core muscle strength, discipline and other health related benefits, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu offers all the above and more.
The environment is very safe for students and we ensure that safety and enjoyment is a priority when you train. At first the training may seem difficult as it takes time for your body to adapt and gain the required fitness level and flexibiulity. Training is a continual process of learning and improving
The most important aspects of training is to learn to improve and enjoy the time on the mat .
Gi Class description
Gi training is with a uniform called a Gi or Kimono , and is often regarded as more technical than No gi training with a wider range of techniques involving the Gi itself. The Gi can be used to control an opponent for a variety of moves take downs, sweeps and submissions.
A Gi is usually sold as a set with a jacket and pants .It can be white, blue, black etc. Most Gis do not come with belts we hold variety of Gis .
No Gi and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Class description
No Gi also called Submission Wrestling. In this class we wear shorts and shirts. No GI class consists of Brazilian Jiu Jtsu, Wrestling and Judo techniques on the mat. Joint locks (arm, foot, knee bars, wrist locks) chokes, take downs and sweeps are taught. Generally described as higher pace then Gi class and learning control is an important aspect. Sometimes we may even work on basic strikes and street self defense techniques.
Most students train in both forms as the skills from each style make you a better overall BJJ student.
Open Mat Description
Non-instructional class. Students work together, togo over techniques from the past week or work on specific moves they wish to improve.
It is an open training environment and the students get together and set the type of training they wish to work on be it sparring , drilling, technique study etc. It is counted as attendance.
