Instructor Profile and General Information::
Stephen Kamphuis considers himself fortunate to have competition experience and training in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, this has allowed him to study both the grappling and throwing techniques unique to each Martial Art.
While living in Australia Stephen studied Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) under Mr Anthony Lange who was one of the pioneers of the Sport in Sydney. Mr Lange is also a former Senior World BJJ Champion.
At Mr Lange's school Northside Martial Arts , training partners and instructors included Anthony Persoh and Elvis Sinosic.
Stephen also trained with and under Brown belt instructor and good friend Brazilian Raffael Costello whose club was just around the corner from Anthony Lange. A good relationship was formed between both members of each Club. This friendship evenually lead to Stephen to train with and under Mr Fabricio Martin a 5th degree Black belt under Osveldo Alves recognsed as one of the foremost BJJ instructors in the world.
In recognition of the school and lineage and out of respeact to the instructors that Stephen trained under Kamphuis - Machado with affliations to ,Rigan Machado, Will - Machado, Lange - Machado , Equipe Fabricio Brazil, and Sinosic - Persoh was chosen as the name of the school.
Training and grades of students are endorsed and recognised in Australia , the US here and in Brazil.
A strict sylabus is followed for grading purposes which is unique to all Will - Machado schools so that students can be asssured that thier knowledge base is the same as if they trained in Australia.
Since coming to the Philippines Stephen forged a strong friendship with Mr John Baylon who is currently the National Judo Coach.
Mr Baylon as a 6 degree Judo black belt and BJJ Black belt has an in depth knowledge of techniques that take years of commitement and practise to apply. When ever possible John imparts his infinite knowledge to the students of KMA.
Judo takedowns and BJJ grappling techniques are taught to make
the students more complete in both stand-up and ground phase of Sport BJJ and Self Defense.The classes are structured for sport or casual training depending on your schedule.
Classes stress teaching the basics and fundamentals of both arts, a good knowledge of the basics enables students to progress with a strong foundation . As a result, the students master the more complex techniques easier. The lessons are structured for both Gi ( Kimono) and no Gi training allowing the student to develop submission and grappling skills in both areas. There are also classes for kids and Womens BJJ / Self defence.
The kids classes are based on a sylabus developed in conjunction with Sinosic Perosh Australia. The children learn a variety of standup and ground skills including some boxing defence and attacks, Kickboxing, Judo and BJJ.
The emphasis is to have fun while still learing valuable skills.
The Womens BJJ/ Self defence classes focus on Self defence for the Real World but also include Sport BJJ techniques to enable the students to have sound grappling and self defence base.
BJJ is not for everyone as it takes commitment and hardwork to make progress ,but it should also come with a warning that once you are committed it can be very addictive. Anyone is welcome to attend or watch a class.
