Video: Jaguar Tang vs David Ancheta

Enderun Representative, Jaguar Tang, cooks up the competition in the URCC University Challenge with the best TKO of night by: Stephen Lao

Sept 12, 2009 Amateur fighters from different Universities were once again given the opportunity to make their Alma matter proud as they showcase their skill, tenacity, and heart in the URCC (Universal Reality Combat Championships)

Enderun representative Jaguar Tang, did just that, as he finished his opponent via TKO in just 1:51 seconds of the first round garnering him the best TKO of the night as decided by the judges.

Slao: First and foremost, congratulations on a job well done! How does it feel?

Jaguar: Thanks Slao! It feels great! Especially having so much support from you guys (Friends, Schoolmates, Team mates) It really helped in getting me motivated to win.

Slao:  Tell us about your preparations for this fight, how long did you train for this fight?

Jaguar: Well to be honest, I wasn’t supposed to fight. What happened was my team mate had to back out 2 weeks before the fight, and I decided to step in.

Because I only had 2 weeks to prepare, I had no time for sparring, cardio, and working on my weaknesses. So the game plan was to take it to the ground (where I am most comfortable in), and finish it quickly (before I gas out, haha). Luckily, it worked.

Slao: Yes, I heard you were a very decorated grappler here in the Philippines, who do you train under, and how has it helped you in your fight?

Jaguar: I am a blue belt under Stephen Kamphuis of Fabricio Jiujitsu. He has helped me win several gold medals over the 2 years I trained BJJ (brazilian jiujitsu), and is like a father figure to me and my team mates. This definitely helps as most fights end up on the ground.

For MMA, I trained in a couple of places: Gary Garay who is my boxing coach, and for this fight, I trained with team SPRAWL with Coach Christian who was totally supportive despite me being a new member to their gym.

Slao: Wow that’s a lot, haha. Sounds like MMA is a tough sport, and you really need to put in time. How do u manage to keep you grades up? I understand you are also in the Deans List?

Jaguar: I guess its all time management. Put in time for training, time for studying, and time for relaxing. But of course I did have to make sacrifices the week before my fight, but my professors has been very supportive and understanding.

Slao: Thanks for the interview Jaguar, and what is next for you?

Jaguar: Well its going to be a few weeks left before finals, so I just have to concentrate on that first. After that, I am hoping to join one more amateur competition, and if things go well, PRO.

Slao: Okay good luck with that, and again thank you for the interview.

Jaguar: No problem, (Slao DOTA mamaya)
