How old can children start TRAINING?

Children can start learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from age six years and above.

What do children learn from TRAINING?

Children learn - self- defense, self reliance, control and respect for each other , kids also learn to develop a competitive spirit, this is a valuable tool for advancement in society.
We encourage our kids to compete at the competitions we hold, win or lose the kids are able to focus on improving their own personal performance.

Another vital aspect of training is learning to break fall and roll,  the training plus the exercises  help to strengthen  growing bodies. Children need an outlet for exercise, discipline  and play , martial arts provides all this and more. Lack of regular exercise and muscle development at a young age can lead to many health related issues later in life.
If you would like your kids to be on a path to a more healthy lifestyle try Martial Arts.

WHY TRAIN MARTIAL ARTS?
The best reasons for kids and adults to train in martial arts and why individual sports rather than team sports are a lot better.

SELF CONFIDENCE:
Usually the first reason that most people take up Martial Arts is for self-defense. Not only does Martial Arts teach techniques to defend yourself but also it makes you think about how to defend yourself.
As you become more proficient at martial arts your confidence can get a big boost. Self-confidence can reach far beyond the Dogo and can translate to everyday life.

BELTS RANKINGS:
It may seem an unlikely reason at first but Jiu Jitsu is one of the hardest martial art systems to progress through the grades. Gradings can give a real sense of achievement and confidence. For children and adults it is a great way to track your progress, set goals and provide a motivation to train and improve.

DISCIPLINE:
In Martial arts the mantra is practice makes perfect. To attain skill takes commitment and discipline, added to this is the formal structure of most martial Arts which is to follow instruction and respect your teachers and the other students, rules and protocols must be followed.

GYM ENVIRONMENT:
Although Martial arts is an individual sport you train in a group unlike in say weight training where you train alone and have to motivate yourself the group offer you encouragement to keep training and improve. Our gym is very much a family orientated place to train, we have students as young as 5 up to 60. In many cases not only do the kids train with us but also so do the Mums and Dads.

EMPHASIS ON INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT:
In many sports such as basketball there are only a few starters, only a few can start on the main team, there are also certain positions and not everybody has the chance to be the main playmaker. You may have to explain to your child why they are batting at the end of the line up or why they where not called, or why the team is not winning.

In Martial arts everyone is on the team, each Childs success is based on their own individual merits. Perhaps your child may not be the best in martial arts but that will be because he tried and lost not because he was unable to make the team.

The pressure to succeed comes from within, thier ambition and  abilities will drive them to succeed. Training in a group environment like martial arts allows children to develop sportsmanship as a part of an overall team.

GENDER EQUITY:
Martial arts are one of the few sports where boys and girl can play together. The techniques and moves can be done just as well by boys and girls.

WHAT WE TEACH: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu / Muay Thai ( Adults and Kids )

Muay Thai Kickboxing is a great Self Defence and overall body workoput it teaches you not only how to use your hand but your legs as well.
Muay Thai can be a great help in losing weight and improving your general cardio vascular system. We have summer classes for Muay Thai . ( Schedule to be advised )

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) has also become very popular with both sexes and is one of the few martial arts that can be taken up at any age.

Although one of the most effective Martial Arts in it's real life application it is still a rather low impact  and safe sport. Unlike most sports age, body shape, height, strength, speed are not the only most determing factors in skill.

You will learn soem devastating submissions in a very safe and friendly environment.

EXERCISE:
The typical class involves warm up exercises, stretching, specific drills, break falls, practicing and learning new techniques and possibly some sparring which is up to the individual. The workout assists in the natural development of a child or adult’s body, martial arts works the core muscles and also helps to build a stronger Cardio Vascular system.  In Martial arts students learn core movements such as how to fall and roll, exercises that strengthen the whole body system. Bridging movements which strengthen legs and back and exercises that focus on co-ordination and body movement.

COMPETITION:
Like most sports Martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is about competition. Competition is a great way for kids to test their skills and show their progress.
Competition sets a goal for the kids to train and achieve.

YOU CAN JOIN IN:
We encourage parents to join and most of the instructors that assist have children attending the class. We offer classes for both parents alike on Saturdays.. You can become physically fit together and encourage each other. A great activity to bond with the kids.
