 Resident BJJ Black Belt Instructor- Stephen Kamphuis trained and received his Black belt from Anthony Lange and John Will, (Will-Machado Australia 2004) and six Degree Black Belt Master Fabricio Martins of Equipe Fabricio of Brazil also in 2004.He received his first degree black belt in 2007 from Master Fabricio while competiting in Brazil, and received his second degree in 2010 from 9th degree Grandmaster Osvaldo and Master Fabricio in Brazil after winning the Senior Black Belt Absolute. Stephen has the rare distinction of being one of only a few non Brazilians to earn all his Black belt degrees in Brazil. Before coming to the Philippines Stephen was the first person from New Zealand or Australia to hold Black Belts in both Judo and BJJ granted by the respective International Federations ( International Judo Federation and the International Jiu Jitsu Federation ).He has also refereed at both the World and the Pan Ams the first non Braziilain from the Asia Pacfic region to achieve this honor. He is also the Head Director of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu federation of the Philippines affiliated to International Federation of Jiu Jitsu. Background: Stephen started training Judo at the age of 14 while growing up in New Zealand under Coach Ivan Willis (Olympic Judo Referee) receiving his Black belt in Judo just before turning 20. He competed for New Zealand on several ocassions, the first being as a 14 year old in New Caledonia. Once he moved to Australia he continued training on a semi regular basis in both Judo and Boxing, and also tried other martial Arts like Hapkido. His continued interest in Martial Arts lead to the discovery of BJJ quite by accident, he immediately found a real passion for the technical, mental and physical skills that come from training BJJ. His BJJ instructor in Australia was Anthony Lange, of Lange Martial Arts and it was at this school where Stephen not only received high level instruction from Anthony, but had many great training partners including Anthony Perosh and Elvis Sinosic who now own and operate SPMA in Australia. ( see links). While in Australia Stephen formed a close friendship with Brazilian training partner Rapael Costello a student of Master Fabrico. In 2003 Anthony Lange and Stephen decided to compete and train with Master Fabricio in Brazil and he has continued to do so for the past 8 years. With the approval of Anthony Lange 2006 Stephen accepted an inviitation to head the Fabricio team in Asia the first team outside of Brazil." John is one of the most decorated Judo players ever to come out of South East Asian region, with a n unprecendented record of 9 SEA Games Gold medals (The highest in any single medal sport ) he has gained a reputation as one of the regions toughest and most gifted competitors. In addition to this record haul he has twice represented the Philippines at the Olympics and been a medalist in the Worlds Masters, Asean and Asian Games. He has fought in the prestigous Kano Cup and the Red and White belt competitions held in Kodokan Japan and are by invitation only.
John first started his Judo while living and working in Japan spending over 15 years thier ,honing his skills and competing for his country. While living in Japan, John devoted himself to Judo and through competition successfully gained his six degree Red and White Belt in the home of Judo the Kodokan Headquaters in Tokyo , this is an honor and a rare distinction in all Judo circles.
With continious training in Japan and in the Philippines, Johns contribution to the level of Judo in the Philippines is enormous, he now passes on this knowledge and the skills that he has gained as both a competitor and as a former Head coach of the Philippine National Judo team to the students of KMA.
In addition to his Judo skills John is also a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Academia AZ in Japan. John is the first person from the South East Asian region to hold a Kodakan Judo Black Belt and a BJJ Black Belt. John been both a National BJJ and multiple National Open Judo Champion. John is still an active member of the National Judo Team having had prolific sucess in both Regional and International competitions. As an Instructor John's knowledge of both Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is rarely surpassed having trained both in Japan on a daily basis , students have a rare opportunity to train with and learn from John. GORDON PRESTON
Senior Instructor : Kamphuis - Fabricio Taiwan Gordon has been practicing martial arts for almost 30 years. He started wrestling at age 12 and began training in full contact Kung-fu and boxing at age 16 . He was presented his purple belt in BJJ by Stephen Kamphuis and Anthony Perosh in May 2007. Gordon has won many medals in the Pan Asians Gi and No Gi competitions and the Philippine BJJ International Gi and No Gi competitions. Gordon has a very versatile back ground as a martial artist, he is black belt in Judo, boxed under Ken Billinghurst ( member of Canadian Boxing hall of fame), trained with second degree black sash Murry Parsons (1975 western Canadian full contact Kung Fu champion) and also with Max Marrin ( Maximum fighting champion ), the Chinese Cultural University wrestling Team and trained for 7 years in Wing Chun Kung fu under Lo Man Kam ( nephew of Yipman ). Gordon opened Evolution Combat in 1995 ( then known as Taipei submission fighting gym) to bring submission fighting to the public of Taiwan. Gordon has trained many to victory in sport Jiu Jitsu, submission grappling and MMA. In 2004 at the age of 39 Gordon fought Asian games San Da gold medalist and 3rd degree Judo black belt Lin Sun Hsiang in the TFKC. Gordon won the match in 1 min 30 sec by standing rear naked choke. The match caused much controversy because many had considered Lin the best fighter in his weight class on the island. Gordon is recognized as a pioneer of the sport in Taiwan. He has worked the door for many years in various Bars and Night clubs so he knows what works and what doesn’t.
ARCHIE CELEBRE
Senior Instructor Archie holds a very special place in the team, being one of the very first students who trained under Coach Stephen at the original gym in Wack Wack. He has been training under Stephen for the past three years and has placed in some of the most important competitions held in the South East Asian region. The Pan Asian BJJ International, Pan Asian No GI International and both the Philippine International Open an the Philippine No Gi International against opponents from within the Philippines and the South East Asian region. Archie holds the rank of Blue belt one stripe . Coach Stephen is very proud to see Archie one of his original students branch out and run his own gym. We have complete faith that students will receive very good instruction, based on the teaching and the syllabus that Archie has learned. Archie is a dedicated practitioner of BJJ and passes on this enthusiasm to his students. He is regularily supported by other Team Fabricio members who train at Archie's gym.
Noel Eric B. Ang
Senior Instructor: Kamphuis-Fabricio Laguna Kamphuis-Fabricio Dubai, UAE Noel is into various other sports aside from BJJ. An accomplished Bodybuilder and Powerlifter, Noel has competed and won several National and Regional competitions in both fields. Noel has held the National Novice Powerlifting records for the Bench, Deadlift and Totals for several years. Noel has been training with Coach Stephen for two years and has placed in some of the most important competitions in the South East Asian region. The Pan Asian BJJ International, Pan Asian No GI International and also in the Philippine International Open an the Philippine No Gi International, the Philippine National BJJ and National No GI Championships against opponents from within the Philippines and the South East Asian region.
Noel was presented with his BJJ Blue Belt by Coach Stephen together with Master Fabricio on April 2008 and he obtained his second stripe in Blue, March 2009. Noel also holds a Black Belt in Traditional Aikido.

BYEON JAN WON
Senior Instructor: Kamphuis - Fabricio Korea
Byeon Jan Won is a Blue belt who was promoted by 5th degree Black Belt Fabricio Martins, Head Instructor of Team Fabricio based in Brazil, and Black Belt Stephen Kamphuis head Instructor of Team Fabricio - Asia in April 2008. Byeon is also a Black Belt in Judo and a 7th degree Black Belt in Hapkido.
Byeon is the first person to open a school in Korea under the Team Fabricio banner. His dedication to martial arts started at the age of only 7 years old. In his search to be a more complete martial artists he decided to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He started his training in BJJ while living in Korea but decided to train under Stephen Kamphuis for a period of over 6 months to further his knowledge and mat skills. Byeon had a first hand opportunity to also train under and be graded by Master Fabricio upon his first visit to the Philippines.
Byeon is a dedicated and knowledgeable martial artist who makes a very welcome addition to the Team Fabricio Family; we look forward to seeing his own student’s progress through the art and the growth of BJJ in Korea. He is also an accomplished competitor winning medals in both the Philippine BJJ and No Gi Internationals, and the Philippine National Gi and No Gi events.
